“Glory to God for all things!” How many times have we heard and said this phrase, sometimes with all our heart and other times “half-heartedly!”
This famous phrase is a saying of Saint John Chrysostom.
Saint John, who endured many hardships and sufferings, is the one we commemorate every time we have the freedom to perform the most important act a human being can perform on Earth, the Divine Liturgy, during which, as appropriately prepared as possible, we approach the Holy Chalice and unite with the only Savior of the Human Race, Christ! In these unexpected days, when abortions are permitted and the Divine Liturgy—the sweetest act that earthly man has the unique privilege to perform—is prohibited, we are releasing “Small and Orthodox 98,” dedicated to the Saint through whom Christ gifted us his namesake Divine Liturgy of Saint John Chrysostom, that is, the way to receive His Holy Body and His Precious Blood.
This golden-mouthed Saint was persecuted, slandered, mocked, tormented, and exiled. It was there in exile that he fell asleep in Christ, on the day of the feast of the Universal Exaltation of the Holy Cross; however, his feast day was moved to November 13 to avoid the coincidence of his falling asleep feast with the strict fast of the Cross.
With this “Small and Orthodox” issue, we will get to know the basics about this most significant Saint, and may we feel it to the depths of our souls every time we too say “Glory to God for all things!”
