We drew the information for this book from the ancient text of the same name, "The Voyage of Saint Brendan."
In 1976, British historian and explorer Tim Severin, wanting to prove the historical authenticity of "The Voyage of Saint Brendan," built an exact replica of Saint Brendan's boat. He recruited a crew with whom they set out to follow the exact same route the Saint had traveled. Thus, they set sail from Ireland to Peckford Island in the Newfoundland region of Canada, with intermediate stops in the Hebrides and Iceland, just as the Saint had done. After this successful expedition, he wrote a book in which he documents in detail the absolute authenticity of everything described in Saint Brendan's book. Tim Severin's book became very popular and was translated into 16 languages.
