We have all seen children, from our own family or others, in t-shirts on which the name Brooklyn, or BKLN, is written.
What is this Brooklyn?
Brooklyn is the largest borough of the city of New York, in the southernmost part of New York State and in the easternmost part of Long Island. There are about twenty Orthodox parishes in Brooklyn.
Saint Raphael of Brooklyn lived there.
How wonderful it is every time we see the place name Brooklyn, to also say a prayer to the Saint of Brooklyn!

Saint Raphael is one of the contemporary holy illuminators of North America. His parents, Michael and Miriam Hawaweeny, were from Damascus, Syria. They were persecuted by the Muslims in their homeland and were forced to flee to Beirut, Lebanon. Saint Raphael was born there in 1860.
